There are a lot of good-looking and useful Javascript libraries. The good thing is they can be integrated into a web viewer in FileMaker. It is even possible to interact with the web viewer, display more information or navigate to a certain FileMaker record using the fmp protocol. A couple of years ago (times goes by..) I wrote about an interactive map of Sweden.

Many users work with a single FileMaker Pro database, copy the database to a mobile device, make changes and then copy it back to the desktop computer. If the database is small it can easily be copied between the desktop computer and the iOS device using iTunes, mail, or whatever. If the database is big it can be to time-consuming to copy the whole database back and forth. I spent some time earlier this year to develop a solution (well, ”hack” might be more accurate) where I import/export only part of the data, exchange only the updated information between the main database and a small local copy at a iOS device, using Dropbox as an intermediate storage.

Jag använder web viewers mer och mer i olika situationer. Inte bara för att visa webbsidor utan mest för att åstadkomma funktioner som annars inte hade gått att göra. Förutom att dynamiskt skapa webbsidor som innehåller HTML och Javascript för t.ex. diagram och trädstrukturer, använder jag web viewers för att visa och interagera med bilder i SVG-format.

A little more than a year ago I wrote how to make a clickable map in FileMaker using a web viewer. The fmp protocol was a little bit limited in the FileMaker desktop version back then, but with the new possibilities in 13v2 it is more useful!

Om du har FileMaker 13 installerat, gå till http://www.filemaker.com/se/support/index.html och ladda ner uppdateringen som finns till höger. Inte bara Pro/Advanced har uppdaterats, även FileMaker Go. Den uppdateringen laddar du som vanligt ner i AppStore.
